Northern Cape Premier Dr. Zamani Saul has expressed deep concern following a court decision to place the Ekapa Minerals’ Mine in Kimberley under provisional liquidation.
This comes as the search continues for the five miners who were trapped underground after a mud rush more than two weeks ago.
Saul was speaking during a prayer meeting organised to support the families of the trapped miners.
He says the situation is a tragedy on top of a tragedy.
Saul says, “On Wednesday, the court gave the mind an order for provisional liquidation, that is a serious setback. It’s a tragedy on top of a tragedy. We are now sitting with five workers in the mine, in a shaft at a mine and are having now 1100 workers who are patrolling the streets, unemployed.”
