The water stressed town of Plettenberg Bay in the Western Cape has moved to level 4 water restrictions due to drought conditions.
This comes as the Bitou Municipal Council also declared the area a local state of disaster.
The request will now go to provincial and national channels for intervention.
In recent months, the Bitou Municipality has introduced several measures to try and conserve water.
It has also applauded its residents and businesses for their commitment to saving water.
The neighbouring town of Knysna is facing its own water challenges.
Knysna was declared a local disaster area, with provincial and national government stepping in to support the municipality to restore long-term water security.
