Johannesburg waste management entity, Pikitup, says it will implement a weekend recovery plan to clear waste collection backlogs in parts of the city affected by the recent operational disruptions and protest-related incidents.
The clean-up operation will take place this weekend.
Pikitup spokesperson Anthony Selepe says teams will remove the accumulated waste and restore normal collection services across affected communities.
“The recovery plan will prioritise area service by the Randburg, Roodepoort, Central Camp, Midrand, Selby and Marlborough depots, which have experienced delays in waste collection. Teams at these depots will continue working over the weekend to clear backlogs and restore services.”
