The former deputy leader of the Congress of the People (COPE), Willie Madisha, has remembered the late Mosiuoa Lekota as a man who never compromised on what he believed in.
Lekota, who is the former leader of COPE, died earlier on Wednesday morning at a hospital in Midrand, Johannesburg, at the age of 77.
He also served as the National Chairperson of the ANC.
Madisha says Lekota sacrificed a great deal for the liberation of Black people.
“He would not compromise at all for as long as that which he believed was correct; he would not compromise. He would debate and debate and make sure that he got what he believed was correct. If one were to give you an example, when one went to the congress of the ANC after the unbanning of the organisation, he was one man who stood up and said to Nelson Mandela, ‘Here you are wrong.’ And you would remember that everyone, when they saw Nelson Mandela, said, ‘No, we cannot say here you are wrong.’ But he is the man that stood up.”

Meanwhile, Speaker of the Free State Legislature, Mxolisi Dukwana has described Lekota as a Bull Terrier in South African politics.
Dukwana says Lekota was a stern, brave yet jolly individual.
He reminisced about how accommodating and diverse Lekota was, always ensuring that all races and genders were included in pivotal decisions.
Dukwana passed his condolences to the bereaved family.
“If he believed in something, he would go for it. He was a man, that was very brave, there are things that he did, that I would demonstrate, that he was a formidable force, when it came to him, or even for anything that he felt that was okay. The comrade was always standing his ground,” explains the Free State Legislature Speaker.
