Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre has urged the public to take extra precautions as the city is experiencing high temperatures this week.
Disaster Risk Management spokesperson Charlotte Powell says the South African Weather Service has predicted that Wednesday will be the hottest day of the week.
Powell says no heat-related emergencies have been reported thus far.
“We do want to remind the public to please continue doing everything possible to reduce their risk of heat-related impacts and to pay special attention to the needs of children, the elderly, pets and other vulnerable groups. Also, where possible, please delay strenuous activities outdoors during the hottest period of the day to mitigate the risk of heat exhaustion. The heat advisory does also increase the fire risk, so please be cautious around open flames and remember to report any sign of fire.”
