Ramaphosa Concedes Objectives Of NDP Targets Not Within Reach – Xavier Radio Ug

President Cyril Ramaphosa has conceded that the objectives of the National Development Plan (NDP) are not within reach but he says a lot has been done to improve the living conditions of South Africans.
He was fielding questions from MPs in Parliament.
The NDP sought among others to reduce unemployment to around 6%, ensure 5% economic growth and build a capable state by 2030.

Unemployment stands at over 30% and the country remains one of the most unequal in the world.
President Ramaphosa says work is under way to build a capable state that will change things for better.
“The NDP targets, they are not within reach and I have outlined to you the various factors that have brought us to where we are. But in the end, we need to collectively accept that we are off target we now need to make sure that we correct course. Now, as I said there are number of areas where we have made great success and I enumerated them.”
Ramaphosa adds, “However, I must say on the key ones particularly the triple challenges of poverty, unemployment and inequality, it has not been sufficient to satisfy our people but we continuing to build a capable state.”
