The Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crime Court has sentenced former Steinhoff Auditor, Hein Odendaal to four years imprisonment or a R2 million fine.
Odendaal, who turned himself in to the Hawks last year, entered into a plea agreement regarding his role in the multi-billion-rand scandal.
The court found he failed to report massive fraud involving fictitious income which led to the release of false and misleading audited financial statements.
“Odendaal was also sentenced to an additional two years imprisonment, which is wholly suspended for a period of five years on the following conditions, that the accused is not convicted of contravention of Section 34 (1) of Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act (Precca) committed within the period of suspension, and that the accused subject himself to a one year correctional supervision in terms of section 276(1)(h) of the Criminal Procedure Act,” says Hawks National Spokesperson, Katlego Mogale.
