Kumi University produced a dramatic comeback to defeat Islamic University in Uganda at Kayembe Arena on Tuesday ,strengthening their push for a historic quarterfinal place in the Pepsi University Football League.
The match burst into life almost immediately when IUIU took the lead just a minute after kickoff. A teasing cutback from Faizal Mumali on the left flank caused panic in the Kumi defense, forcing Osama Ramathan to inadvertently turn the ball into his own net.
Despite the early setback, Kumi University kept their composure and settled into their rhythm with structured attacking football. The visitors dominated large spells of the first half but could not convert their chances before the break.
The second half, however, told a completely different story.
Just two minutes after the restart, Semu Odeke delivered a long ball that released Nyongesa Christopher, who calmly finished to level matters and spark life into the visitors.

Five minutes later, Kumi turned the game on its head when Walwasa Nathan confidently converted from the penalty spot in the 53rd minute, sending the traveling supporters into wild celebrations.
IUIU responded through a well-delivered free kick from Emmanuel Shinkanga, which was powerfully headed home by Rodgers Kiggundu in the 58th minute to restore parity and bring relief to the home crowd.
But Kumi University were far from finished.

Walwasa Nathan struck again in the 75th minute to complete his brace and restore the visitors’ lead, before Olupot Simon sealed the memorable victory with a thunderous strike in the 87th minute.
The thrilling comeback not only secured a vital win for Kumi University but also marked the first time since joining the Pepsi UFL that IUIU have conceded more than two goals at home. Kayembe Arena, long regarded as a fortress and nightmare for visiting teams, was finally breached in spectacular fashion.
The victory also stands as Kumi University’s biggest away result in the competition and keeps them unbeaten in four matches this season.
With momentum firmly on their side, the rising side from Kumi are now edging closer to a historic qualification for the UFL quarterfinals, proving they are no longer mere participants but serious contenders in university football.
