Accused number two in the Senzo Meyiwa trial, Bongani Ntanzi, insists the photos downloaded from his cellphone were taken prior to his arrest in June 2020. He has strongly disagreed with the state regarding the dates on the photos.
Ntanzi is under cross-examination at the High Court in Pretoria where he is appearing alongside four others for the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana captain.
State Prosecutor George Baloyi says some of the pictures were taken while Ntanzi was in prison.
However, Ntanzi insists they were taken prior to his arrest alleging that the dates could have been altered.
“I did say that these photos were taken using my phone. What I’m disputing here, my Lord, is the date as well as the time. Here is the photo, the photo is appearing here.
I’m wearing slip ons but I’ve never had those kinds of shoes in prison. I started having them in Rustenburg, in Ramaphosa, in prison.”

The proceedings at the trial resumed on Tuesday after a power outage on Monday that led to temporary closure of the entire court, resulting in matters rolling over.
State Prosecutor George Baloyi says they were not informed about the reason behind the power outage.
“All that we know is that there was a power interruption. We don’t know what the cause was, and there was also no backup. But I was told, also the generator doesn’t work. Apparently, it has broken down or something.”
