South Africa has recorded positive economic activity in the fourth quarter of 2025 increasing by 0.4%, following a 0.5% increase third quarter of last year.
The latest Gross Domestic Product (GDP) data released by Stats SA was largely in line with analysts expectations.
Full-year growth for the economy expanded at a faster pace, growing by 1.1% last year compared with 0.5% in 2024.
Chief Director for National Accounts Dr Bokang Vumbukani-Lepolesa says industries such as agriculture and finance grew positively while others like manufacturing contracted.
“Manufacturing was the largest negative contributor, shrinking by 0.6%. The most significant downward pressure came from the automotive division, wood, paper and publishing, and food and beverages. Other industries that declined in the fourth quarter included electricity, gas and water, construction, mining, transport, storage and communication.”
