The Nkabinde Enquiry in Pretoria is expected to hear more testimony relating to the past atrocities that the KwaZulu-Natal-based Cato Manor Organised Crime Unit and its commander, Major-General Johan Booysen, had allegedly committed.
On Monday, former police reservist and businessman Aris Danikas testified on how Booysen had allegedly turned the unit into a racist group that mocked black people.
The enquiry is probing suspended South Gauteng Director of Public Prosecutions Adv Andrew Chauke’s fitness to hold office.
Danikas said that Booysen had watched his unit members assault and torture suspects to death.
He responded to evidence leader Adv Thembeka Ngcukaitobi’s questions.
Ngcukaitobi: “I wanted to just confirm the point you were making earlier about saying, director, we need an ambulance. How did he react to that?”
Danikas responded, “This is a situation, as I said earlier, I can repeat myself, I don’t want this man to get medical private care. My guys want to get sold, so they go to the government hospital. So I have declared the scene unsafe, and I’ll wait for him to die. That’s it.”
