The Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria has ruled against North-West businessman Suliman Carrim‘s application to testify in camera on Monday.
Carrim’s legal counsel had argued that his client had been receiving death threats. However, the commission has disputed the argument.
Evidence leader Adila Hassim has argued that the threats against Carrim’s life have not been linked to his appearance at the Commission.
“Mr Carrim attaches text messages that he has received from unknown numbers, which appear to be threatening. We don’t know the context, further context, of those text messages. We don’t know what the potential sources of those text messages are. We don’t know whether there’s any hostility or dispute that’s happening within Mr Karim’s workplace that may give rise to this. We don’t know what the source of the threats is,” argued Hassim last week.
