The office of the Minister of Higher Education and Training, Buti Manamela, has noted media reports regarding the lease agreement entered into by the Education, Training and Development Practices Sector Education and Training Authority for office premises in Johannesburg.
It says the matter raises serious concerns relating to governance, building compliance, and the potential implications for public funds.
Minister Manamela has requested an urgent report from the department, which is engaging with the SETA.
Manamela’s spokesperson, Matshepo Seedat, says the report should establish the full facts surrounding the procurement process, the lease agreement, and the circumstances that led to the non-occupation of the premises.
“In light of the Sunday, media reports regarding ETDP Seta office lease matter, Minister Buti Manamela has requested an urgent report on the matter as it raises concerns relating to governance, building compliance, and potential implications of public funds. The minister has emphasized the safety of employees, as well as the responsible use of resources, remain paramount, and that any governance failures or irregularities identified will be dealt with (as per the) applicable laws and regulations,” says Seedat.
