Deputy President Paul Mashatile says the evidence coming out at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry indicates that there are loopholes in the government’s measures to fight crime and corruption.Mashatile is answering oral questions in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP).

— Paul Mashatile (@PMashatile) March 5, 2026He says President Cyril Ramaphosa has acted on the commission’s preliminary report by instructing both Police Minister Professor Firoz Cachalia and National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola to start the process of investigating and prosecuting rogue police.“We need to be preventative and I’m hoping that the recommendations from the Madlanga Commission will help us in that regard to say here are the loopholes that you need to close so that we mustn’t wait until people have committed crimes and then we act, but the system must be such that they prevent this from happening so that there is no opportunity for criminality.”
