The Ekapa Minerals Mine in Kimberley, which is under provisional liquidation, says they are communicating with families through the subcontractor who employed the men who are trapped due to a mud rush.
The company says it has made progress on the recovery operation but can’t give a timeline on the recovery of the bodies as the process is safety driven.
The mine was responding to allegations from family representatives that mine management didn’t offer any help or direct communications.
Ekapa minerals has acknowledged the trauma of the situation while defending its communication strategy, which coordinates updates through the contractor to ensure verified information is provided.
The mine has been place under provisional liquidation until the 17th of March, when legal proceedings continue at the Northern Cape High Court.
The company is continuing the retrieval operation having already cleared over more than 32 000 cubic metres of water and debris while denying reports of a second mud rush.
