Zimbabwean nationals, Bellarmine Mugabe and Tobias Matonhodze, are expected to apply for bail in the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
The pair briefly appeared in the same court last week, but the case was postponed for further investigation.
The case relates to a shooting incident at former Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe’s son’s house in Hyde Park last month, where a 23-year-old man, believed to be Mugabe’s employee, was shot and hospitalised.
They are charged with attempted murder, defeating the ends of justice, and possession of a firearm.
The firearm allegedly used in the shooting has not been found.
Specialist investigator Mike Bolhuis says, despite the disappearance of the firearm, the state still has a strong case against the pair.
“If the firearm is not found, it means there is corruption. Those on the scene will know where the weapon is, and they must be thoroughly investigated. Otherwise, they must all be charged because it is definitely defeating the end of justice, and there is a form of bribing, colluding and intimidation as well. The mere fact that the weapon disappeared cannot be allowed and must not be left aside. This case will not fall apart if the weapon is not found because all involved will be charged.”
