Phala Phala Farm Theft Trial Returns To Modimolle Court – Xavier Radio Ug

The Phala Phala farm theft trial will resume in the Modimolle Regional Court in Limpopo on Monday morning.
Three accused persons are being tried for the theft of 580 000 US dollars from President Cyril Ramaphosa’s farm in Bela Bela in February 2020.
The lead investigator is expected to continue his testimony about a confession statement obtained from a hostile witness.
The witness was declared hostile after giving contradictory statements. He is accused of transporting the accused on the day of the theft.
The accused Imanuwela David and the Joseph siblings – Froliana and Ndilinasho, are facing charges of theft, conspiracy to commit theft, money laundering and housebreaking.
The court has ordered that the witnesses should not be identified.
When taking the witness stand during the previous sitting, the lead investigating officer read the contents of the confession statement by the hostile witness.
In the confession statement, the hostile witness admitted having assisted David and his co-accused, the Joseph siblings, with transport on the day of the theft.
The investigating officer also testified that the statement was obtained at the witness’s residence in Lebowakgomo outside Polokwane.
The defence lawyers are expected to start cross-examining the investigating officer.
